About Chop’s Aquatics

Chop’s Aquatics grew out of a long-time passion for keeping aquariums and creating environments that are as natural and healthy as possible for the animals living in them. Over the years that interest gradually evolved into sharing aquarium botanicals and helping fish that need a better situation.

One part of the project focuses on natural botanicals for freshwater aquariums. Items such as oak leaves, acorn caps, and other natural materials are commonly used in blackwater and shrimp tanks to recreate the environments many species come from. These botanicals release tannins, support biofilm growth, and add natural structure that fish and shrimp instinctively use.

Another small part of Chop’s Aquatics is the Betta Rehome & Recovery Program. Occasionally bettas end up in situations where they need better care or time to recover before moving into a stable home. This program exists to give those fish a chance to recover and eventually transition into healthier long-term environments. To keep the focus on quality care, the program intentionally remains small and manageable.

At its core, Chop’s Aquatics is simply an extension of the aquarium hobby — sharing natural materials, improving fish welfare where possible, and connecting with others who enjoy building healthy, natural aquariums.

The goal has never been to build a large commercial operation, but rather to support the hobby in a small and thoughtful way while encouraging natural aquarium practices and responsible fish care.
